Consultation on revocation of the Demolition Approved Code of Practice
The Approved Code of Practice for Demolition is in the process of being revoked.
The Department of Labour is seeking input for a revocation of the Demolition Approved Code of Practice. When completed, the Demolition Best Practice Guideline that is currently under development by an industry working party is intended to replace the ACOP published in 1994.
We are seeking input and feedback on the current Code to be incorporated in to the draft best practice guideline. The Demolition Approved Code of Practice would not be revoked until the new Guideline is in place.
The reasons for the replacement of the Approved Code with the Guideline are:
- to include the amendments to the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 that came into effect in May 2003;
- to reflect current good practice operating in a range of diverse workplaces across New Zealand;
- to ensure that guidance material provided around this issue is consistent with other New Zealand documents; and
- to ensure that New Zealand guidance documents reflect international best practice.
It is intended that the reviewed Code would apply to the demolition industry with other key stakeholders including the construction and transport sectors. Interested parties are invited to comment on the current guidelines.
