Standards New Zealand Seminars for the Management of Dangerous Goods for Transport

If you are involved in the management of dangerous goods for transport, you’ll want to make sure you are up to date with the latest safety practices.

Standards New Zealand will be running a series of seminars on NZS 5433:2007 Transport of dangerous goods on land. These seminars are designed to educate those involved in the transport of dangerous goods about the new Standard, as well as industry best practice to help you to operate safely.

NZS 5433:2007 provides technical information to assist industries involved in transporting goods to comply with the Dangerous Goods Rule. The revised Standard also brings it up to date with relevant international and national information, including changes in the 14th Edition of United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods and the Land Transport Rule: Dangerous Goods 2005. The Land Transport Rule is mandatory for all operators and was updated in 2005. The 1999 Standard should now not be used.

The seminar is designed for anyone involved in the management of dangerous goods for transport, including engineers, HSNO test certifiers, chemical importers, chemical manufacturers, chemical retailers, police, transport companies, courier companies, freight forwarders and packaging companies.

Attendees will gain valuable knowledge on how to use the Standard and the handbook. You will also have an opportunity to assess your own knowledge of the handling of dangerous goods at the seminar. Attendees will also receive a 25% discount off NZS 5433:2007 Transport of dangerous goods on land

Standards New Zealand has managed to secure the skills of two highly experienced industry experts to present these seminars.

  • Bill Birch is the Technical Manager for the NZ Chemical Industry Council. An ACC & ICI trained Safety, Health and Environmental Assessor, Bill has over 40 years practical chemical industry experience.
  • Pete Roche, CMITL, Dip. Logistics, is Director of HazKnow Limited, a hazardous substance and dangerous goods consulting and training company. Following 20 years in the New Zealand Army as an Ammunition Technician (Bomb Disposal), he was Dangerous Goods Freight Manager for Tranz Rail Ltd for seven years.

The seminar is scheduled for two hours, and includes tea and coffee as well as a question and answer session at the end of the presentation. Interested parties can register online at www.standards.co.nz, or call Standards New Zealand on 0800 728 632. The registration fee is $145 excl. GST.
