Safe scaffolding project in Auckland and Northland – info and education days
The Department of Labour is running a Safe Scaffolding Practice Project targeting the residential and commercial construction industry in Auckland and Northland.
As part of the project, inspectors are visiting construction sites to assess scaffold safety and undertake any enforcement action needed. They will also provide information to help ensure compliance on the existing site, and when the company and its workers erect scaffolds on other sites in future.
The project, expected to last at least six months, includes two further education days, which will take place at the Kerikeri PlaceMakers on May 6 and at Tai Poutini Polytechnic in Mt Wellington on May 20.
For an information pack on scaffold safety, or for information on getting involved in the project or attending an education day, contact Health and Safety Inspector Frazer Perry at Frazer.perry@dol.govt.nz. Construction companies can also contact Frazer to get the results of assessments done on their sites by the Department.
General information on scaffold safety is also available at www.osh.dol.govt.nz/order/catalogue/#co.
