Strategy for phase two of WorkSite

Department of Labour Te Tari Mahi
Labour Market Policy Group

5 June 2003

WorkSite the next generation will deliver even more customised information and services on skills and work

More customised information for job seekers, employees, employers and students is promised in the next phase of development of the labour market portal WorkSite PaeMahi. Phase two will deliver more extensive and customised skills and work information and services, Geoff Bascand, General Manager of the Department of Labour's Labour Market Policy Group said today.

The strategy for phase two of WorkSite (www.worksite.govt.nz) was released today. It signals developments to the portal agreed to by the core government agencies involved, and is due to be completed by the end of 2003.

WorkSite was first launched in November 2002. It's a one-stop shop portal for people and businesses, providing the information and services about education, training, jobs and employment available through various government agencies.

"Visitors to WorkSite phase two will get information from outside of government, too" says Geoff Bascand. "As well as enriched information and more integrated services from departments including Labour, Career Services, TEC and Work and Income, we hope to add private sector information as well."

"We're planning a collaborative approach, with the focus on information that's useful to students, workers, job seekers, employers, self-employed and career-planners."

Mr Bascand said the details about including private sector information on WorkSite would be worked through in the forthcoming business analysis phase, including establishing clear guidelines for stakeholders' involvement and their content. "We'll be seeking discussions with the private sector about ways to include their information, such as links to their websites from WorkSite."

WorkSite is one of the initiatives under the Government's Skills Action Plan which aims to improve matching people's skills to available job opportunities, and help people make informed decisions about their education, training and work choices.

Government agencies involved in WorkSite include the Department of Labour, Career Services, Ministry of Social Development (Work and Income), State Services Commission, Industry New Zealand, New Zealand Qualifications Authority, Tertiary Education Commission and the Ministry of Education.
