OSH Announce Result of Investigation into Death at Wellington Polytechnic

Friday 27th March 1998

Following the investigation into the death of Mr John WAITITI at the Wellington Polytechnic in September 1997, the Occupational Safety and Health Service of the Department of Labour (OSH) are to prosecute two Wellington companies.

OSH has laid charges alleging breaches under the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 against Roach Construction Ltd and About Cleaning Company Ltd.

Mr Waititi was killed while working on a extension to the Music School at the Wellington Polytechnic.

OSH will not be issuing any further information as it is now an issue for the Wellington District Court.
