Labour Market Update - February 2010 2010-02-05
The labour market eased further in the December 2009 quarter as a result of the recession over 2008 and 2009. The number of people in employment fell, wage growth continued to slow and the unemployment rate rose to a 10-year high of 7.3%.

The Key Information Tool (KIT) gives users headline labour market information in a single, easy to access place. The tool has been developed with three layers of information. The first layer gives key labour market indicators for the latest quarter while the second gives more detailed time series information for each variable and the third provides further breakdowns for key groups such as ethnic and age groups.

Economic Growth - September 2009 Quarter 2009-12-23
Economic activity increased by 0.2% in the September 2009 quarter following a 0.2% increase in the June 2009 quarter (Fig 1). Following five quarters of contraction, growth in the June and September 2009 quarters confirm the New Zealand economy is recovering, albeit tentatively.

New Theme in Employment Law - Holidays Act 2003 - Consent to take annual leave 2009-11-17
In Ashton v PMP Print Limited unreported R Arthur, 27 August 2007, CA 104/07, the Employment Relations Authority considered whether an employee was unjustifiably dismissed for taking leave. In its determination the Authority discussed previous case law on the issue.

Looking Back and Building Futures: Former Refugees' Views on Settling in New Zealand  2009-11-06
The aim of this exploratory study was to hear the views and experiences of former quota refugees who have lived in New Zealand for more than ten years. The findings from the study fed into the development of questions for a nation-wide survey of people who had arrived in New Zealand through the Refugee Quota Programme between 1993 and 1999.

Joint MSD/DoL Quarterly Regional Labour Market Reports 2009-11-05
The unemployment rate for all 12 regions was 5.5% for the year ended September 2009, up from 3.9% for the year ended September 2008. The rate was highest in Northland, which had an 8.3% unemployment rate for the year ended September 2009, followed by Gisborne/Hawke's Bay (7.8%), and Auckland (6.2%).
