Meet our people: Rob
Manager
Labour Market Skills
"I'm part of a ground breaking programme that is one of the first of its kind in the world."
When I started here six years ago I worked within a team looking at regional labour markets. Now I manage my own team delivering an innovative programme to investigate and capture information on skills shortages.
It's been a steep learning curve but I've had strong mentor support from very experienced people. I've also been on several courses. As well as the internal management courses run by the Department, I have attended a recognised and respected external management training course.
The project I head up is about developing ways to measure skills shortages and then bringing all the information together in a useful format. At the moment the information is in many different forms - on computers, in literature, even in people's heads! We need to put it all together and package it in a way that is useful to labour market experts, organisations and businesses.
I originally studied economics; grappling with the concepts and theories was fascinating but I wanted to see how they worked in practice. Here I get the intellectual stimulation I enjoy, and also play a part in projects that have a positive impact on the world around me.
