Department of Labour Graduate Research Grant
Call for Proposals, 2011 academic year
The Department of Labour invites applications for a graduate research grant in the 2011 academic year. Graduate students who plan to carry out research on topics relevant to the Department of Labour’s work are encouraged to apply.
The Department is interested in supporting academic research in the fields of labour economics, immigration, employment and labour policy and relevant social science research and evaluation. The research could contribute to the policy advice that the Department provides to the government.
It is usual for the Department to award up to three students $5,000 each. However, the Department will also consider applications up to a maximum of $15,000 that are accompanied by a detailed account of anticipated research costs and on how the funds will be used in the research. Grants are awarded to assist with the cost of carrying out research (for example, collecting and analysing data) and not to cover university fees or personal expenses (for example, living expenses). This grant is available to full-time Masters and Doctorate students enrolled in a New Zealand university during the 2011 academic year.
Proposals
Proposals should include a title, a brief description of the objective(s), the proposed methodology, the data, and if possible some preliminary results. Applicants should also demonstrate how the research will contribute to existing knowledge. The first page must include the title, the name of the student and a full contact address. References, numbered tables and graphs should be on separate pages. All pages must be numbered. In addition, the applicants must arrange with their academic supervisors to send at least one letter of reference on their behalf.
Proposals should be submitted as PDF to research@dol.govt.nz by Friday 25 March 2011. The successful applicants will be announced by Friday 6 May 2011.
Further information
Successful applicants may be asked to give a presentation about their research methodologies to an audience invited by the Department of Labour. Actual and reasonable travel expenses incurred with this would be covered by us.
