The workplace productivity 'starter' kit

Quote

'Improving the skill levels and work processes around the machinery was just as important as the machinery itself.'
Steve Silver, CEO, Cottonsoft

The starter kit is a folder of resources containing some handy ‘starters’ to help identify what you can do to improve productivity. The resources have been developed based on actual experiences, and as shown by the case study companies presented in the kit, each workplace has its own way to do this.

Consumer testing has found that these resources are most useful to employers and managers of Small to Medium companies, who would like to know more about workplace productivity and how they go about taking actions to improve it. Also organisations like the Chambers and Business NZ, who have expertise and experience and want to lead their members in the productivity drive.

The resources and ideas in this folder can be adopted — or adapted — by businesses of any size as larger workplaces have also said they find the kit useful. Believing as we do in Kiwi ingenuity, there’s an emphasis on DIY and drawing on the ideas of everyone in your workplace. The productivity questionnaire and the case studies contained in the starter kit are also on this website.

The questionnaire will give you an idea of how efficient and productive your business currently is, how well you use your staff and resources based on the 7 drivers, and where there is need for improvement. It looks at how your workplace is organised and how your workplace culture impacts on the overall productivity of your business because improving productivity involves exploring all the ways that your workplace can do things better and smarter.

How to use this resource

As an employer or manager you can use the productivity questionnaire as a starting point, focus on one driver or several and develop an action plan based on your answers. An action plan template is available in your kit with the questionnaire. Get your staff involved with answering the questionnaire and watching the video case studies to get their ideas and discuss what could work in your business. Do involve your union reps if you have them as well.

Read the case studies to get ideas of how other companies have improved their business productivity and profits.
