Holidays Act 2003 – Payroll specifications

There is a range of ways that payroll software can be used to assist employers to meet their obligations under the Holidays Act 2003. The specification provided below provides an interpretation of the Holidays Act 2003. While there may be other legally compliant interpretations, this interpretation is one that the Department of Labour considers to be compliant with the Holidays Act 2003.
This payroll specification was designed in consultation with payroll and software companies. The New Zealand Payroll Practitioners Association has updated the payroll specification, with the assistance of the Department of Labour, to include the amendments made to the Holidays Act 2003 by the Holidays Amendment Act 2010.
