Do I need another medical certificate or chest X-ray when extending my visa?

Whether you need to supply further medical or chest X-ray certificates will depend on your individual circumstances. Identify your situation below:

I’m applying for a further temporary visa AND

• I intend on staying in New Zealand longer than 12 months AND the medical and chest X-ray certificate submitted with an earlier application were issued less than 36 months ago
-> No, you do not need to submit another medical certificate and chest X-ray certificate.

• I intend on staying in New Zealand longer than 12 months AND the medical and chest X-ray certificate submitted with an earlier application were issued more than 36 months ago
-> Yes, you need to submit another medical and chest X-ray certificate which are less than three months old.

• I intend on staying in New Zealand less than 12 months AND the medical and chest X-ray certificate submitted with an earlier application were issued less than 36 months ago
-> No, you do not need to submit another medical certificate and chest X-ray certificate.

 I’m applying for a resident visa AND

• The medical certificate and chest X-ray certificate submitted with an earlier application were issued less than 36 months ago

-> No, you do not need to submit another medical certificate and chest X-ray certificate.

• The medical certificate and chest X-ray certificate submitted with an earlier application were issued more than 36 months ago 
-> Yes, you do need to submit another medical certificate and chest X-ray certificate that is less than three months old.

The above are examples of common scenarios and may not apply to everyone.  Visa officers may request a further medical certificate and chest X-ray certificate if they consider this is necessary to establish whether you have an acceptable standard of health.
