Help for redundant employees
If you have to make an employee redundant, then consider what transitional help you can give them.
For example, if they:
- want to become self-employed, start or buy a business; you could point them to some free online business start-up training or business training services.
- need to look for another job, can you offer them time off or some private office space with a phone, computer and printer so they can prepare covering letters, send emails, search the internet for vacancies and prepare documentation they may need?
- need a CV, can you help them update their existing CV, or help towards the cost of having their CV reviewed and improved by a specialist?
- need to update skills or learn new skills, can you make some contribution to the training cost?
- need counselling or budgeting advice, can you contribute towards the cost? You can also point them to useful resources such as www.familybudgeting.org.nz, www.sorted.org.nz or the BUDGETLINE service on 0508 283 438.
