Solving Problems
As a parent or guardian, you may be able to assist if your young person encounters a problem in the workplace, or if you believe the workplace is unsafe:
- Make sure that the young person is clear about what happened and that it is not based on a misunderstanding.
- Talk it over – the young person should discuss the problem with the employer first, you may wish to attend and support them when they do this.
- Call the Department of Labour Contact Centre – 0800 20 90 20. The Contact Centre can provide information on all aspects of employment relationships. They can advise you of different options that may be available to you, what employment institutions may be of assistance, and how to take further action if necessary.
