Skills Action Plan for the Food and Beverage Sector

Towards a high skill, high wage, high value economy

The Food and Beverage Taskforce launched its Development Agenda Smart Food, Cool Beverage in 2006 to address skills and training within the food and beverage industry.

The agenda was informed by a number of reports, including the Skills Action Plan for the Food and Beverage Sector.  The Skills Training Action Group (STAG) was formed at the end of 2006 to oversee the implementation of the action plan.

STAG has commissioned a number of reports for the sector:

  • Science and Technology Adoption in the Vegetable and Savoury Foods Sub-Sector (Innovation & Systems Ltd, July 2006)
    Identifies what might be done to facilitate a greater level of science and technology adoption in the vegetable and savoury foods sub-sector.
  • Food & Beverage Labour Forecasting Framework: Development and Indicative Applications (BERL, May 2006)
    This report sets out a framework for forecasting labour requirements in the food and beverage sector.
  • Food and Beverage Productivity Study (Deloitte, August 2006)
    A qualitative analysis of workplace productivity in the food and beverage sector.
  • Food & Beverage Service Sector Productivity Study (The New Zealand Tourism research Institute, AUT University, January 2007)
    Productivity from the perspective of both employers/managers and employees.
  • Skills Shortages in the Food & Beverage Sector (Work Directions, Department of Labour, May 2006)
    This report examines skill shortage issues for specific food and beverage occupations that are most likely to have an impact on future growth of the sector.
