OSH not investigating tripple fatality
Saturday 8 July 2000
OSH is not investigating the road accident which killed three Southland youths over the weekend.
Based on the information that has emerged the accident lies outside OSHs responsibility, despite earlier media reports that OSH was undertaking a full investigation.
Farmers are not responsible for the safety of those who go on their property without the farmers permission.
The Health and Safety in Employment Act was changed in 1998 to clarify the responsibility of farmers when people came onto their properties.
OSH yesterday made initial inquiries into whether this case came under its responsibility under the Act, it clearly does not.
