Friday 11 June 2004
The Department of Labours Occupational Safety and Health Service today laid charges against Richmond Ltd in relation to two accidents at the Oringi freezing works plant near Dannevirke earlier this year.
The charges were laid under the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, following the death of Kirihora Chase in February, and another accident a week later in which a workers hand was crushed.
The charges have been laid under Section 6 and Section 13 of the Act that relate to failing to provide a safe place of work and adequate training.
A date for the first hearing has not yet been set.
