  1. Prior to restructuring, review employment agreements and job descriptions
  2. Commence consultation as soon as possible
  3. Develop proposed structure   
  4. Distribute proposed structure to employees
  5. Consult over proposed structure.
  6. Consider feedback
  7. Consider voluntary redundancy
  8. Advise affected employees (and union if there is one present) If cleaning, food catering, orderly, laundry or caretaking jobs are involved see the related page at www.ers.dol.govt.nz/redundancy/protection-in-special-circumstances.html
  9. Confirm new appointments/redeployment in writing.
  10. If jobs change significantly, renegotiate employment agreement
  11. Identify training needs
  12. Consider allowing time for job search/support for those leaving
  13. Develop and provide references
  14. Conduct exit interview (if appropriate)
  15. Collect company property
