Job Vacancy Monitoring Programme
The Job Vacancy Monitoring Programme provides insights into skill shortages in New Zealand. The key components of the Job Vacancy Monitoring programme are:
Job Vacancy Monitor (JVM)
The Job Vacancy Monitor (JVM) is a monthly analysis of job advertisements appearing in selected editions of 25 daily newspapers. Analysis of the JVM suggests that it is an indicator of change in labour market tightness, or change in the degree of difficulty of recruiting staff. Vacancies are coded at a detailed occupational level and on a regional basis. The JVM also includes a count of the number of IT vacancies listed on selected websites.
Occupations in Shortage in New Zealand (SERA)
The Survey of Employers who have Recently Advertised (SERA) is an annual survey of employers to establish whether the positions they advertised were filled, and the number and suitability of applicants. Occupations where less than 80% of vacancies are filled with a suitable candidate are typically regarded as experiencing skill shortages. The results of the SERA are presented in the report Occupations in Shortage in New Zealand.
In-depth Occupational Analysis
In-depth analysis for Trades and Professional occupations is carried out on an ad-hoc basis. The analysis utilises the results of SERA surveys as well as other data sources that provide additional insight into the supply and demand forces contributing to shortages.
IT Recruiters Survey
The IT Recruiters Survey is an annual survey of major information technology recruitment agencies to assess which skill specialisations are most difficult to find.
