These reports present data from the Job Vacancy Monitor (JVM) – a monthly analysis of job advertisements published in selected editions of 25 regional newspapers and on selected websites. It enables us to monitor the number of advertised vacancies in each occupational category over time.

Occupations in Shortage 2006 When considering the New Zealand labour market overall in 2006, there were widespread skill and labour shortages with only 61% of the 5,486 advertised vacancies included in SERA 2006 being filled within ten weeks of advertising.

November 2007 There were 6119 advertised job vacancies measured in November 2007 which is a 5% decline from twelve months ago.

October 2007 There were 6,116 advertised job vacancies measured in October 2007, which is a 2% decline from twelve months ago.

September 2007 Total job vacancies rose 1%, trades vacancies rose 5% and IT vacancies rose 22% in September 2007 compared to September a year ago.  Southland (27%) had greatest regional growth in job vacancies compared to September 2006.

August 2007 Jobs advertised in August 2007 rose by 1% compared to a year ago. This is the first time the Job Vacancy Monitor (JVM) has recorded growth since September 2005. 

June 2007 There were 6,589 advertised job vacancies measured in June 2007, which is 1% fewer than recorded a year ago.

May 2007 There were 7,079 advertised job vacancies measured in May 2007 – almost exactly the same figure as that recorded a year ago.

April 2007 There were 7,125 advertised job vacancies measured in April 2007: 2% fewer than in the same period 12 months earlier.

March 2007 There were 7,219 advertised job vacancies measured in March 2007: 5% fewer than in the same period 12 months earlier

February 2007 There were 6,436 advertised job vacancies measured in February 2007: 6% fewer than in the same period 12 months earlier.

January 2007 There were 6,297 advertised job vacancies measured in January 2007: 8% fewer than in the same period 12 months earlier.

December 2006 There were 6,117 advertised job vacancies measured in December 2006: 6% fewer than in the same period 12 months earlier.

November 2006 There were 6,420 advertised job vacancies measured in November 2006: 7% fewer than in the same period 12 months earlier.

October 2006 There were 6,223 advertised job vacancies measured in October 2006: 9% fewer than in the same period 12 months earlier.

September 2006 There were 6,023 advertised job vacancies measured in September 2006: 13% fewer than in the same period 12 months earlier.

August 2006 There were 6,063 advertised job vacancies measured in August 2006: 11% fewer than in the same period 12 months earlier.

July 2006 There were 6,351 advertised job vacancies measured in July 2006: 8% fewer than in the same period 12 months earlier.

June 2006 There were 6,695 advertised job vacancies measured in June 2006: 4% fewer than in the same period 12 months earlier

May 2006 There were a total of 7,104 advertised job vacancies measured in May 2006 – 7% less than in the same period 12 months earlier

April 2006 Some employers finding it easier to recruit; others still struggle.

March 2006 Labour market still tight, but recruiting becomes easier.

February 2006 Skill shortages easing; labour market still tight.
