Summary of the older workers labour market for the year to March 2007

This figure summarises the number of older workers in the labour market for the year ending March 2007. In total, the number of people who fall into the working age population aged 55 – 64 years is 426,000. Of these, 307,000 (72.1%) are in the labour force, while 119,000 (27.69%) are not in the labour force. The total number of people who fall into the working-age population aged 65 years and over is 484,000. Of these, 64,000 (13.2%) are in the labour force while 421,000 (86.8%) are not in the labour force.
