Future demand for aged care workers will grow rapidly as a result of an aging population and increasing life expectancy.

Work Directions is developing a collective approach towards understanding how a future labour supply can be met and reducing barriers to employment in this domestic sector.

We will work with a sector reference group to produce a skills action report which includes an analysis of constraints to address. This group will include major private sector providers, national associations, government agencies, unions and research agencies.

The outcomes sought through this sector work are:

• The capability of the industry to undertake workforce planning and address skills is increased
• Skills levels are improved
• Future labour and skills demands are planned for and recognised in government policy
