Government investment in infrastructure provides an opportunity to enhance the employment, skills development and workforce capability in this sector. The Department’s work in this area is focussed on:

• providing Employment Impact Assessments on infrastructure projects including roading, energy, telecommunications, water and building activities. This analysis can assist in planning the timing, location and scale of construction based on labour and skills availability and demand.
• working with relevant industry organisations to determine the labour market impacts and needs from increased infrastructure construction. In some instances this will involved the development of formalised skills actions plans.
