Sector Workforce Plans: Tourism and The Rugby World Cup
The Department is supporting the Tourism and Hospitality Workforce Leadership Group by coordinating data, information and analysis across the industry, and between the sector and government. Support will focus on the following priority areas:
- Maximising skill utilisation in the existing workforce
- Aligning education and training to meet industry needs
- Improving seasonal labour flows
- Identifying ways to monitor labour productivity
Rugby World Cup 2011
The Rugby World Cup (RWC) poses both challenges in meeting peak labour demands and opportunities to leverage skills development. We will partner with initiatives in the tourism and other sectors to analyse the labour and skill requirements for the event, covering key elements such as hospitality, tourism, transportation, security and media.
A stock-take of regional activities has been undertaken, and an analysis of the impact on the Auckland labour market will consider the impact of significant visitor numbers during the Cup. The aim is to ensure that the skill and labour requirements are accounted for, and to develop a skills legacy from the event.
