Taskforce Report and Papers
The Taskforce on Pay and Employment Equity in the Public Service and the Public Health and Public Education Sectors was established by the Government in 2003. Its task was to advise the Government on the factors contributing to the gender pay gap in those three sectors, and to draw up a five-year plan of action to address pay and employment equity in those sectors. Its report was published in 2004, and led to the development of the Government’s Pay and Employment Equity Plan of Action and the establishment of the Pay and Employment Equity Unit within the Department of Labour.
The Taskforce drew on two key pieces of research produced by the Ministry of Women’s Affairs: Next Step Towards Pay Equity: Discussion Document, July 2002, and Next Steps Towards Pay Equity: Submissions Report, May 2003.
