Paid Parental Leave for Self-Employed – Verification of Applications

Who can verify paid parental leave applications of self employed?

The Parental Leave and Employment Protection Regulations 2002 was amended from 1 July 2010 to widen the group of persons with authority to verify the applications for paid parental leave of self employed parents.  This ability is currently available only to Chartered Accountants.

The amendment allows tax advisors who are a member of an organisation with approved advisor group status under the Tax Administration Act 1994 to also verify applications of paid parental leave for self employed persons.

There was no change to those who previously held it under the current legislation. For full details of the process for applications view our website.

Self employed applicants still have the choice of having their paid parental leave applications verified by a self declaration which is witnessed by a justice of the peace or other persons who may witness a statutory declaration under the oaths and declarations act 1957.
