Can minors sign binding settlement agreements?
From 1 April 2011 minors aged 16 or 17 years will be allowed to sign records of settlement and those agreements will be final and binding.
Under the Employment Relations Act 2000 employers and employees can use mediation services to resolve employment relation problems. If the parties reach agreement on how the problem is to be resolved they can enter into a record of settlement. If certain conditions are met the terms become final and binding on, and enforceable by, the parties. Click here for more information about mediation.
